Master Modeller Roger Corrie and His Indy Car Bodies

I have a lot of respect for anyone who can scratch build anything. Carpenters rank the highest on my list, as right now they have the greatest personal impact alongside of brick and stone masons. This all has to do with the work on our house in Rougemont, which consists of a new project about every five feet or so. In the automotive realm, Detroit has employed hundreds of designers over the decades who

How's This for a Project List?

Here's just a taste of my "To Do" projects. At least 200 or more cars in need of TLC. Some are restore projects and some a runners but all need a little something. I figure I have my work cut out for me for the next few years or so. I also have another box of AFX and TYCO bodies somewhere that were put on the side to be worked on someday. I hope that someday eventually comes.

New Aurora Finds

afx 002.jpg

This is another small collection of T-jets that I got today for a very good price. These are in as found condition and are pretty dirty and need a good cleaning and polishing. However, all are uncut and have solid posts all around. The Charger is a Sea Foam Green but looks different because it was photographed under a florescent light. Nice find and it goes into the collection after a little TLC. It is in need of a windshield if anyone has an extra one. I hope to have these cleaned up in the next day or so but slot car time has been on hold for the last several weeks. With the recent passing of my Father-in-law, traveling, work, family time and never-ending home improvement projects, there just isn't any time to do anything else. But I will eventually get caught up in the weeks to come. Hopefully

Sometimes You Just Have to Ask...

I was looking around for some extra G-plus chassis's and posted the request on another forum (yes I do visit others at times surprise).  I was contacted by a member who said he had a few he'd be willing to part with because they weren't his interest. He preferred Pancake chassis's.  Anyway, Life goes on and I had nearly forgot about it, when He e-mailed me asking for my address.  I just received the package yesterday, and to my surprise there was eleven chassis's, 9 of which I was able to get in running condition, I have to get a few parts for the other two.

Vintage Tyco Finds

2010.jpg

Here are a few vintage TYCO cars that you just don't see everyday. I especially like the "S" Thunderbird but the Love Bus is pretty cool too. I picked these up separately from a couple a small collections I purchased recently. I have more coming later this week and will post pics as they arrive.

Cobra legend Dave McDonald along with Eddie Sachs died in a lap two accident during the 1964 Indianapolis 500, the first Indy in history that USAC officials stopped the race. McDonald was driving the Thompson-Sears Allstate Special, a rear engined car built by Mickey Thompson in 1963 and updated with more aerodynamic bodywork for the 1964 outing. Unfortunately the car was poorly built and handling was horrendous. Behind the scenes on Carb Day, the rookie McDonald was told by Jim Clark to "get out of the car mate. Just walk away." According to Chris Economaki, McDonald never even practiced with a full load of fuel due to Thompson's focus on high speeds. "The Clown Prince of Racing" Eddie Sachs, driving the rear engined Halibrand-Ford Red Ball Special had three loves: his wife Nancy; their small son Eddie Junior; and of course the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

An Interesting Encounter

I had an interesting encounter on ebay a few weeks ago while searching for AFX cars. It turns out I wasn't so fussed on his items as I was with the description provided with them. The seller goes by the name of pittsburghpetey58 and the following text has been lifted from one of his current sales:

"Please Note: I was employed at Aurora Plastics in West Hempstead, L.I., New York, at 44 Cherry Valley Rd., along with the rest of my family.  My father was in charge of Purchasing Orders, Crew Lines, as well as all Foreign Dealings related to Production at the Largest AURORA  plant. He was the last FOREMAN AURORA HAD before Tomy arrived.  A lot of the cars in my auctions are my personal stock from childhood. I've been a collector for over 30 years..."

Recent Purchases

Recent Purchases.

This lot is the result of about 4 weeks worth of searching for some difficult cars. Mostly overseas purchases here including the Gold AFX Shadow #3 in absolutely pristine condition. But the Black AFX Ford Street Van is a 9+/10 and is a very welcome addition. I haven't seen too many of these around so this is a pretty special find for me. Not a lot coming in the next few weeks but I did manage to snare a unique and complete Tomy track from the U.S. Will share that one when it gets in.
