Digital Creations by Angel: Aurora Model Motoring Ford GT Watermelon

Aurora Model Motoring Ford GT WatermelonYou won't find this car in any reference book but the colour I've conjoured up with Adobe Photoshop is an interesting one.

This Aurora Model Motoring Ford GT Watermelon is pretty cool I reckon.

I'm keeping all these digitally enhanced cars on file in case one day I decide to actually turn these ideas into the real thing.

I feel this site is turning a new leaf and showcasing more and more custom work which is just fantastic. I enjoy reading all the articles with "new" cars, so my input for now are these cars I dream up in my head.

2009 - It was a VERY Good Year.

2009 - It was a VERY Good Year.2009 - It was a VERY Good Year.

These are just some of the cars obtained throughout 2009 and a few into 2010. Not all of the cars are displayed here purely because I couldn't fit any more on my tucker-box freezer to take the pic !

Not my usual high quality photo either but as far as volume of cars is concerned, I think the story comes across pretty well.

You may ask where are all of those fabulous chassis'? Well, I've been stacking them up hand over fist and have done a few here and there but for the most part, each are exactly as I took them out and are just waiting for a clean, polish and test-drive of course.

The New Tomy AFX Mega G F1 cars have landed

Tomy AFX Mega G 1.7 Infinity Set F1 cars.jpgThese new Tomy AFX Mega G F1 cars are from the re-vamped Infinity Set.

Sporting the narrow Mega G 1.7 chassis, they zip around tight tracks marvellously and look the goods.

The Infinity Track has been around for a while and it's great to see a modern touch to it, if only through the addition of new cars.

Digital Creations by Angel: Aurora AFX Rallye Ford Escort #28 Mustard, Blue

Aurora AFX Rallye Ford Escort #28 - Stencil Version Mustard, Blue. This is my digital interpretation of an Aurora AFX Rallye Ford Escort #28 Mustard, Blue.

A stark difference from the Lime Green standard colour released by Aurora.

I imagine the style department must have struggled to decide what colours cars should be adorned in. I'd like to think they at least entertained the idea of several striking paint schemes before settling on the one we know and love today.

AFX factory blemish: An Interesting Observation.

AFX Factory blemish.Continuing on from yesterday's "Seeing Double" blog, I just received this double Aurora AFX Auto World McLaren XLR #54 Orange, Grey body which was included in a sale with another car that I needed.

Nothing really seems to be amiss here but when I took a closer inspection, I found a blemish which I thought was an interesting observation.

Not that it makes any difference really but it is interesting to note that AFX factories around the world had slightly different interpretations of the same car.

Seeing Double

seeing double. You'd be excused for feeling a little cross-eyed at this lot.

From time to time we collect doubles for a variety of reasons. Sometimes, cars which I need are mixed with cars I already have. But that's not a drama really as duplicate bodies make for sometimes essential spares. (see article "Junk Yard Wars")

Just recently however, some hard to find cars have surfaced on Ebay Australia which were just far too good to let pass.

So I didn't let them !

The Aurora AFX Matador Takes A Bath

The Aurora AFX Matador takes a bath. The Aurora AFX Matador takes a bath.

Nothing new here. Just reinforcing the virtues of giving those faded cars a Hydrogen Peroxide bath.

Had some long sunny days here around new years so I took advantage and cranked up the peroxide treatment on a batch of faded car bodies.

The effectiveness of the peroxide increases with exposure to the sun and you know it's activating well when bubbles appear.

Don't forget to strip the chrome off the body first as the peroxide will tarnish it beyond repair. I didn't keep the stickers from this body as they were too faded to work with but I will track down repro's in due time of course.

Junk Yard Wars

Junk Yard Wars.Have you amassed so much junk you just don't know if any of it is really worth keeping? Well take a look at this pile.

I don't normally toss damage cars as one day you might just need a piece off one, but I think some of this stuff is ready for the tip. Suffering all manner of disabilities from missing chrome, broken bodies, missing windscreens, tatty paint and just about any and every other shortcoming you can think of, it's getting to the point where some of this stuff is just not worth salvaging.

Some of the bodies are collectibles but others are just plain generics and re-birthing most of these cars would mean a lot of searching for parts.

In any case, these bodies have mostly been stripped to repair other cars which now sit completed in my collection. So the question arises what to do with them?

The AFXtra's Chevy Corvettes are in.

AFXtra's Chevy Corvettes.I have been waiting patiently for these to arrive via Ray and man, what a pleasant surprise. 5 absolute beauties !

These obvious replicas of the Aurora AFX Chevy "A" Production Corvettes are a real credit to the new manufacturers. I hope this is a sign of things to come and I would love to see some of the older designs make a come-back in coming years.

It's also great to see a very reasonable asking price.

I'm not actually sure which chassis to fit with them. Perhaps some debate could be had guys?

Many thanks Ray. You're a gem.

Re-birthing the light blue Aurora AFX Bre Datsun 510 #35

Aurora AFX Bre Datsun 510 Light BlueHow grateful we should be that in our circles, car re-birthing is not only legal but highly encouraged.

This recent ebay purchase is the hard to find Aurora AFX Bre Datsun 510 #35 in light blue. It came as shown with no front grill and a worn rear bumper with tatty chrome, but otherwise in pretty good shape.

Finding parts for these cars is much harder than imaginable but I had an Aurora AFX Bre Datsun 510 in dark blue which I flipped and broke a while back which you guys may remember.

I was fortunate to find a replacement dark blue body but I kept the broken body just in case. And thank God I did because without the spares from that broken body, re-birthing this body would have been very difficult.
