A friendly reminder to those new to the hobby

Hi, I'd like to offer some friendly advice to those new to this hobby of ours. When cleaning your track, use fine sand paper, or and eraser, even a block of wood. But please please please don't use steel wool! I've been meaning to post this for a while, but when I came across these pics I took after removing the shrapnel from a chassis, I realized I shouldn't wait any longer. Wait. check that, do use steel wool to clean your track, and then when you get frustrated with your cars not working, I'll buy then off you cheap!

Happy birthday Dad!

Today would have been my Dad's 63rd Birthday, He died just before Christmas 2008. I have a history of customizing cars for him, and this is my latest. Thanks for the Body Angel!

Resin Casting 101 * see note at end of blog

I recently received my package of busted up bodies from Angel. I am working on repairing a number of them to ship back. The blue vette shown is one for me, but it had a similar problem as one he sent me to repair. The problem of missing grilles and other parts I'm sure has been shared by everyone of us. If you have 2 similar cars, you can usually use this procees to create a replacement. I didn't think to capture the repair to Angel's car, so this will have to be the substitute. Please remember that you should use a mold release agent, the pieces I copy have either a very light coat of cooking spray, applied with a q-tip or baby power, sprinkled on and blown off. forgot to mention this in the video

Dynomite Dan's Dynamic Dodge Disco Van hits the streets

Well, I hooked up a small coin size battery, and the lights work. The on switch is under the sun roof panel. I still have to paint that black, and install the coin battery holder, details details. The fact is it works, now if I can just figure a way to add the music....

Unfortunately I don't have a video editing program here at the farm, perhaps when I get back to the city...

Why you should never leave your slot car stuff out

P2171016.JPG
or as my wife likes to say, you can't blame the boy because you left it out. A small natural disater known as my son occured again yesterday. Thankfully it involved a product I use for adding depth to my wheels known as "The Detailer". While I was in training, my son opened the bottle and proceeded to paint one of my chassis's. Unfortunately, and folks, I'm not quite sure how it happened... He got it on the wall, chair, table and floor in addition to one slot car. Thankfully it was a life like chassis which I have recieved a part from Ray to repair one of the pickups so it will be taken apart anyway. The heart palpitations occured with my call home that I was just leaving the airfield and my wife said I my son spilled a bunch of paint on the slot cars I was repairing. I had all my incomplete chassis's, bodies, armatures and electronics there and had to calm myself for the disaster I was sure to come across. When I got home, I realized it was my detailing product which is water soluable, which meant no damage had occured to the room. Slot cars can easily be stripped and cleaned, but tables and the like require a lot more work. Not to worry Ray, your van bodies were never in any danger, they are high out of my little hurricane's grasp. Anyhow. clean up your work spaces or at least make sure they are secure.

Walthers is releasing some new sets this year...

I can't recal Ray making mention of these sets, but Life Like looks to be producing some new sets, and hopefully some new cars. check out the list.

Just one example, granted most are Nascar related, but who knows...

Four Gear fumble

A little while back I won an E-bay auction with a bunch of gear plates, including 2 for a 4-gear chassis. The seller claimed to know nothing of the HO hobby, and recieved these in a traded years before. Well I don't know about that, but thankfully I didn't spend much. The only bright spot was a Mean Green armature. I think one ohter regular pancake armature was ok. I found later, after I had received a blank chassis from Ray that one of the four gear chassis plates had been cut up underneath, and the other (only one with an armature) came apart in my hands. I then noticed the loose armature wires.(sigh) I hope this guy wasn't friends too long with that trader, cause he got hooped! I decided to see if I could at least get the good chassis plate to fit ok. I couldn't get the planetary gear and my differential gear to mesh, and here's why. For those in the know, you probably have figured out that the rear diff gears in the 4 gear chassis are different than those on a regular 3 gear. I couldn't figure this out until I opened up another 4 gear to clean it, and noticed the difference. Chaulk it up to experience, Perhaps I will get this one running yet... LoL

A little off topic, but cool.

Took my first official night flight tonight. a couple of pics of the countryside and town of Steinbach.

How To: Windshield Post Repair

Well, I've taken Bill Hall's suggestion, and I'm in the middle of repairing my Teal Capri's bent windshield posts.

I got out some of my model glue, and went to work. I've applied three thin coats of the model glue. If you're not aware, it acts like a solvent, softening the posts. Not too much, just take your time, I started about 3:00 this afternoon, and I've added two additional applications, almost there.
