Silly?

Hey There!

Well, I can't disagree that Fray cars look "silly". When you drive one, however, the silly factor quickly goes away. In my opinion they are the best running car, bar none. I noticed on HOWL that some of the clubs in the South East (NASCAR country) came up with a reasonable solution.

Tire Contact

Hey There!

Certainly my weakest event in FRHO racing has been the MT/XT class. Lately I've revisited my cars and found some disturbing oversights. Here are two almost identical cars I recently purchased from "partspig", Dennis Sieck. Dennis is a very reliable source of quality cars. Thanks Dennis!

Snowy Day

Hey There!

I told you about our snowy day in the forum. Well, we only got around 10", nothing for this part of the world, but regardless it was an excellent day for slots. I wanted a project that wouldn't take to long and provide my slot car fix at the same time. I decided to detail this 917 Porsche, which is loosely based on one of the cars in the movie lemans. The color amoung other things is not quite right, however it doesn't matter. The body will end up on one of my MT/XT race cars. It will get plenty scratched and banged up.

Preparing a Body

Hey There!

A simple and inexpensive way to improve a car's handling can be accomplished with some very basic tools. I chose this Ghia as an example since Big-T is currently working on one. I'll be curious to see how much faster the modified version will be. This particular car is a Dash body. It weighed 3.5 grams in it's stock form and 2.2 grams after modification.

Is New Better?

Hey There,

In the case of AFX Firebirds I would argue the point that "new" is absolutely not better.

I've been combing through ebay for a few years now looking for an old school Formula Firebird at a reasonable price. (car on the right) The problem is these cars are attractive to both collectors and racers.

Home Track Racing

Hey There!

Like most of you, I own a plastic track. I am lucky enough to have room for a  permanent layout. Being a racer at heart, a plastic track presents some problems. The most serious of which is the wear that occurs when running sponge/silicone tires. It's common to destroy a brand new set after only an afternoon of running laps. At $12 a pop that's too rich for my blood. The "nostalgia car" is a low cost solution and a race legal class. It also looks more like a real car for those of you that think Fray cars look silly.

Scratch Built F1s

Hey There!

I just walked in the door from the Fray, but I couldn't wait to share some scratch built cars built by my friend Greg Kondrek. These cars are unbelievable in person. Although the photos I took are not great, I think you get the idea.
