Being hard of hearing has it's moments. Not complaining mind you. The great New Testament Apostle Paul had his thorn too and God choose not to remove it. Same hear or here rather. Yesterday my wife took photos of me following a haircut and shave for my HO Slotracer.com avatar. Ray had relegated me to The Headless Horseman. Having three cow licks in my scalp has to our advantage directed my hair cutting to military styles, and my really nice set of Wahl clippers and trimmers do the job fine and save quite a bit of moolah which is funnelled into the slot car bottomless pit. A hedge against hard times if you want to validate it. Back to the hearing thing. After the photo shoot she complained that the avatar might be a possible avenue for identity theft. I posed the same question to a friend of mine who is in the data security business for an international firm closer to the capitol city. He said that if you can right click on an image and paste it to Word, it could be stolen. RATS. One for my wife. Again back to the hearing thing. I wrote to Ray and used the word atavar as I remember words as my mind thinks I heard them. He said no excuses, as avatar was around way before computers and I could not plead innocence this time and hide behind the imaginary computer user neophyte wall I have erected and use quite often. Ray looked at the problem and concluded the same thing. He as the smart guy he is, advised me to do the right thing and listen to my wife and show her I love her. Now you see why I mentioned the hearing problem. Its a wife thing. Selective too. He even sent me for avatar consideration the new MGF logo, which sadly to say was designed by BMW using the older British MG octagon. Since this is widely flashed on the internet by other
MG related users as their avatar, I went fishing. My hope was to come up with something unique. I submitted photos of my rally MGB before restoration in 1980 or so, give or take a year. This would certainly identify me as mgbbrown and not be associated with any other bloke out there. I also went to the internet looking for one of the lightweight alloy bodied MGC GTS cars that raced for BMC nee MG by the likes of Andrew hedges and Paddy Hopkirk at Sebring in 1969. These packed more punch for pound than just about anything ever built on four wheels, as they are in the flesh not much bigger than most home doors. They have survived, and the RMO car was found in a lock-up in California about 10 years ago, as was the missing Shelby Daytona
Coupe. The first two cars were six cylinder monsters, and the third entry was a four pot. The fastest car I have ever strapped my fanny into was a full race Lotus Elan, and that says a lot since I have been in many a big block early Corvette to know what can cause whiplash. Let us not forget the lowly HO 455 Trans Am which was faster. Ray converted the Sebring photo to my avatar. So here is the MGB's behind MGBbrown. It is now a full boat historic SCCA rally car, complete with a full compliment of Halda odometers and Heuer clocks as the navigators say. NOTHING inside the car is modern or a reproduction, same as my slot cars. Unfortunately it is in a million pieces. Sometimes same as my slotcars, but basically ready to reassemble on a rotisserie. Insert money now please. God Bless!
