Cigar Boxes

How many here used to use a cigar box to hold their T-Jets in? My hand is raised.

Dan...

What would the world have been like without cigar boxes? Fortunately, the guy who lived next door was a cigar smoker, so I could get a box about any time I needed one. Whitman's Sampler boxes were good, too.

But, I learned it was not a very good thing to empty out a sewing box my mom had (without asking first), to use for my hobby (model cars, not T-Jets, at the time this happened). I reeeaaally learned that lesson.

When two or more minds are concentrating on the same subject, a 3rd, more powerful mind is created. Welcome to HOSR.

boxes

I still use a couple of cigar boxes to store my "un-occupied" Aurora and Tyco bodies.  They just feel good!

Of course, I am also using a hand-me-down scrapbooking tote to store my stuff, including the cigar boxes.  Maybe I should have asked for a tackle box for Christmas???

I Raise My Hand!

We used them of all sizes and ilks-especially if we were lucky enough to nab some wooden ones. We did keep our slot cars inside Aurora T-Jet Pit Kits, but all manner of just about anything else from rocks to marbles to trains  and whatever was a boy's fancy went into these boxes! We also TRIED to use up anything dedicated to my mom's knitting or sewing supplies, but that was not even remotely successful. Recently she has let me have some wonderful vintage styrene containers, and I nabbed a couple from Slot Car Fred a while back. God Bless! Tony mgbbrown

Smoke em if you got em

I still use my old cigar boxes to hold various slot car parts and project cars. They work great and bring a lot of nostalgia back from my younger days. The only problem is that I had to smoke a lot of cigars as a kid before I had a place to store my parts and cars. That would probably explain why I'm 3 feet tall, have a chronic cough and severe dry mouth these days but it's all worth it in my opinion.

My hand is up...

We had many cigar boxes as kids to hold our 'worldly' goods.  Our uncle Art was in a group of gentlemen who would trade cigars so everyone could sample a variety of styles at minimal cost.  There were boxes of cigar boxes for us to use for whatever we needed.  They came in handy for school projects too.  My favorite were the various wooden boxes.  It was also our first look at another language (Spanish).

My brothers and I kept a variety of toys and hobby items in our cigar boxes.  Mom would keep her sewing items in cigar boxes as well.  Dad had the most cigar boxes in his workshop.  He had them labled from air tool fittings  to zippo flints.  I guess as manufacturers came out with affordable specialized cases and boxes for these items the cigar box storage theme slowly went away for most people.
