Thanks again, everyone, for the welcomes. I don't get on the site as often as I like but perhaps with time. Someone (Tony Brown, I believe) suggested I post some photos. I had a small track set up with one of the four types of track I have and was exercising the stable and did snap a couple photos. I'll try to post them... here's a mostly original Lionel Thunderbird from my first set as a kid ~1963. The front grill was lost in a crash. I think the I added the racing stripes and numbers (it was number zero) and of course, some sponsors' decals.

Good stuff!
I don't think I've ever seen a lionel car on this site before.

VERY NICE! Personal history is a very important part of our hobby, as we want to capture the fun we once had. You can soak the body in hand dish washing detergent for a gentle cleaning. It took quite a while to restore all of my cars that survived but I am glad that I did! Thanks Old Galoot for sharing this with us-you still might be able to find a grill and front bumper from it! God Bless! Tony mgbbrown

Sorry Serge and Old Galoot; I was not clear in my meaning. When I restored my childhood cars, all I did was to clean them up to spotless and radius the wheel wells I had enlarged for Aurora's Hop-Up Kit slicks. Otherwise they are unmolested as played with. Even the original chassis was retained-complete with vent holes! This is far different though from other Pit Kit cars, such as the Hot Rods in my Hot Rod Pit Kit as an example. I am still amazed that the Mr. Blob Head stayed on my Hot Rod and Chaparral! Holding on for dear life I am sure. God Bless! Tony mgbbrown

Yeah, Restoration is cool but sometimes leaving things be, is the right thing to do. Here is a Galaxie I refurbished. It still has the original play wear. It's OK but I'm guessing it has less meaning to me than yours does to you.
Yes, Elvis is driving it. I couldn't resist painting in the side burns.

Here is one of the cars from the set I got for Christmas in 1969. It isn't much to look at, but it wears a lot of experience. Great Post Galoot!

Great replies, gents! All of you have put more care and love into your cars than I have mine (either then or now!). I thought I could post more than one pic to a post, but perhaps I can do that using the blog feature. I have more pix of the old cars, most do not have as good as a story as the Lionel T-bird. BTW, the other Lionel car in that set was a Buick Rivera. I do not have the body (the chassis/motor is in the boneyard). I'd like to see a pic of one of those. Don't recall seeing one on eBay either, for that matter.
Also, I picked up some new tires for the Lionel, so it's due for a tuneup and new rubber. I don't have any of the original rubber; I remember I had to stretch T-jet tires onto those wheels. They came to kind of a point rather than a flat surface. No wonder those cars never won many races, especially when I had purchased one Tuff One and one Wild One (after a couple regular T-jets).
More pix to come!

THANKS Mark! Hopefully you can find one. Here is a photo:

great pic! for some reason I remember mine as yellow... maybe it was? I'm bummed I have no pic of my old layout, decorated with grand stand, trees, paths, parking lot, snackbar, people (I had an HO train layout also -- have pics of it.). It was a small un-balanced figure 8.
I was going to do a blog tonight and post the rest of the pix but I want to run slots instead! back later.

It is in fact, a Galaxie... right? Help me out here, folks.

It is sharp, HO or 1:1! What powered the real ones, if you know? I don't know my GM powerplants of the 60s that well....

Picture you posted, Mark, is in fact of a '64 Galaxie. If that's what you're asking.

Where'd that "like" button go? John, you are in fact correctamundo.

Not sure why I started calling it a T-bird. BTW, the Lionel Galaxie has a bit different chassis and motor compared to the Lionels I purchased on eBay this millenium. Pics to follow...
