Four Gear fumble

A little while back I won an E-bay auction with a bunch of gear plates, including 2 for a 4-gear chassis. The seller claimed to know nothing of the HO hobby, and recieved these in a traded years before. Well I don't know about that, but thankfully I didn't spend much. The only bright spot was a Mean Green armature. I think one ohter regular pancake armature was ok. I found later, after I had received a blank chassis from Ray that one of the four gear chassis plates had been cut up underneath, and the other (only one with an armature) came apart in my hands. I then noticed the loose armature wires.(sigh) I hope this guy wasn't friends too long with that trader, cause he got hooped! I decided to see if I could at least get the good chassis plate to fit ok. I couldn't get the planetary gear and my differential gear to mesh, and here's why. For those in the know, you probably have figured out that the rear diff gears in the 4 gear chassis are different than those on a regular 3 gear. I couldn't figure this out until I opened up another 4 gear to clean it, and noticed the difference. Chaulk it up to experience, Perhaps I will get this one running yet... LoL

Not only are the crown gears made for the 9t pinion different from each other, depending on the manufacturer. You've got the crown gears designed for the 12t and the 14t pinion to throw in the mix. That's why many sites selling racing parts sell the teflon and nylon spacers. I learned the hard way!

the 4 gear motor pinion also works as the lower cluster gear on a stock t jet. aurora did like most "car manufacturers" recycle as much out of the old model for the new model LOL i think the 4 gear rear axles swap to a t jet too, but am not definite on this.

did you ever try to use a 14T gear on the bottom of the cluster gear on a t jet, and use a super ll crown gear on the rear axle? the reason i ask this is that i have counted the teeth on a X-T setup, and doing this to a t jet would make it geared like an X-T with a super ll. would this help performance, or is there another way thats better. i am not the t jet pro.
