Aurora AFX Racing Set.

Public Holiday's are normally spent out and about in Australia, but this weekend's miserable weather had me and my brood holed up at home. So what's a man to do? Clean up his Man-Shack of course.

I've had slot car gear hanging around for ages and stuff just had to be cleaned up so I got real busy with things and for now, everything looks tidy again.

In the process, I came across volumes of instruction manuals, track layouts, brochures, maintenance tips etc and one lonely but very poignant Factory Guarantee card.

I had to back-track to discover this was the warranty card from my very first AFX Racing Set and it has somehow survived. I wasn't quite 10 years old when either my Ma' or older brothers got me a set for Christmas 1977. I recall it being a Police car set and it came with yellow barrels. I was fascinated by the Aurora AFX ads on TV with a police car chasing down a truck with flashing lights and all... wow...!

Another interesting thing is the marketing name "Kenbrite", which in Australia was synonymous with G.I Joe and other very common toys from the era. A very Tomy-type toy company actually and very ironic too in the whole scheme of things.

There's no mistaking the event though and I had no idea what was coming this particular Christmas. The other gifts were forgotten when this very wide-eyed boy was given an enormous box and under that wrapping was my very first AFX set.
